Digitising the Home User Manual

Most people around the world still manage their homes and offices using the trusted tools of a pen, paper, telephone calls and on-site visits. As far as we are aware, in general, homeowners currently do not use any technology to manage properties other than e-mail or cloud-based storage service.

As examples, how do you as a property occupier gain access to the warranty details of a washing machine, have somebody fix that broken handle or view the rental contract in a digital format?


Building insurance companies have advised DadShed that 1 in 3 trips to manage properties are just to look at the issue, not to repair or resolve anything, wow! Additionally, property management challenges are growing due to the increasing complexity of buildings and advent of technology within homes. The DadShed app enables property developers to create a better experience for their purchasers, helps them organise their documentation in effect a Home User Guide and connect their approved suppliers to that building. Additionally, we believe this will also provide any occupier with a platform to organise their home, not only for new build property developers, though for the secondhand and commercial markets too.

The questions for everybody that live in a a home is:
1. What other uses of this digital data could be found beyond just making managing your home easier?
2. Are there any other methods people use to manage their homes beyond what we have discovered? We have also heard examples of property managers using Facebook Group and WhatsApp Group
3. We welcome your thoughts on anything else we have not considered with regards to improving and championing the occupier experience?

Paperwork sucks – when it is not managed! for your home

Just today I have experienced the frustrating effect of mismanaging household paperwork – knowing that something exists, however not being able to find it.. This error cost over an hour of time – as well as potentially wasting £400 in hard cash!

A family member bought a Dyson cleaner (other brands were available!) nearly 5 years ago, with an extended warranty which made sense – especially since it would be in use frequently. Everything great – until it stopped working after four and a half years. In order to be eligible for the warranted repair service we had to provide the original proof of purchase well as associated paperwork – and this was where the problem started. The paperwork and even email trail had been misplaced/lost!

This is just one household item that should have been better managed – not to mention the critical items including the gas boiler and electrics. This tiny upset turned into a massive waste of time and money – and what makes it even more frustrating for them, it could have all been avoided!

DadShed is on a mission to simplify property management – with an eye on Manchester-based developers initially; In effect superseding the home user manual.
